Your Most Visible BlogPosted: March 21, 2014
If you blog, use these SEO (search engine optimization) tricks for WordPress to make the most of your investment in content.
Start by watching the 20-minute video my website and graphic designer Sonya Andrews made showing how to use the SEO-boosting fields in a WordPress blog.
Then, if you enter your own blog posts on WordPress, start using these fields to boost your visibility online.
Or if, like me, you write your blog content, but have someone else put it in WordPress, try this instead. Compose in Microsoft Word before you hand off to the WordPress placer, using this cheat sheet. Paste these headers into a Word doc to make filling in all the blanks easiest.
FOR EACH POST
Date for posting (if specific):
Post Title (it appears on the page):
SEO Title (custom meta description as it appears in search results):
Body Copy (The heart of the blog post):
Category (the way you cluster content so someone might find more like the blog posts in this section):
Tag (topic for onsite searching, and names of any people featured in the article. It has some SEO impact):
Keyword (very specific, include at least twice, up to 6 or more times in the blog post depending on article length):
Link Me field (how it posts in social media):
Meta description (introductory description of the post – be sure to include keywords):
Excerpt field: (introductory portion of the full post as you want it to appear on the blogsite on any page except the full blog post….)
Image or Infographic:
- Caption (optional):
- Alternate text when image doesn’t show up:
Combined with the buffer, these SEO tricks are making a measurable difference in my blog’s visibility.
Creating great content takes time; make the most of your investment with maximum SEO.
Homework: Take time to watch the video and work these tricks into your blogging habit! I promise it’s a worthwhile investment. What’s the point of creating killer content without the best chance for visibility?
